Stylist Derek Warburton is this minute winging his way to Auckland for NZ Fashion Week where the famously stylish charmer no doubt he will be one of the highlights of the week off the runway. We can’t wait to see his outfits every day.
He has been called an "It Boy," "Milan Man About Town" and "Lifestyle Guru", as well as the more common "Fashionista", after producing the charity event Fashion for Aids and featuring in numerous fashion and style columns in the States. On top of that, he walked the runway at Richie Rich’s fashion show last Thursday on opening night of NY Fashion Week with Ellen Degeneres.
After time spent in Europe, Derek settled in Miami USA and become ensconced in the industry as one of the city’s top stylists, and co-owner of Atomic Funk, a fashion industry bookings firm. His charisma saw him co-hosting positions on “Britain’s Fashion Avenue”, “Big Boutique” on the Style Network, and as a fashion trend reporter for Fox News.
Below: Beyonce for the House of Dereon campaign; Derek designed the set and provided jewellery for the shoot.
But it’s not all high glamour and air-kissing. Derek has an affinity with those who have faced struggle and adversity, from a period where his mother and he were homeless in a tent before she turned their lives around for the better. Now, Derek works with Bottomless Closet, a charity that helps under-privileged women acquire interview clothing for work and he runs workshops called ‘How to be Derek Fabulous’ based on "feeling good about yourself no matter who or what you are."
He has a site DerekLovesShopping.com, a guide to inspire readers with beauty how-tos, home DIY, street style, and budget shopping advice.
While in New Zealand, Derek has a chocka block diary of appointments and interviews with Campbell Live, the Good Morning Show, and is a celeb judge for the Walk the Line North Shore YMCA fashion show on Tuesday night at NZ Fashion Week and be giving a speech at the event which benefits underprivileged youth through the YMCA.
Now if that’s not fabulous, we don’t know what is.
