We talk to Egg’s beautiful and talented designer Charlotte Devereux, who is meeting the needs of expectant fashionistas with stylish and flattering maternity clothing and has modelled the new range for summer while pregnant herself with baby number three.
She certainly is a poster girl for work and life balance. We manage to meet the busy Charlotte in between laying out the summer promotional material and the nanny. And she can do it all with her signature style, which shows through in the designs for her Egg label. In fact, she wore the metallic maxi dress to an event last week and was photographed in it for the newspapers. Such is her personality and presence that she appears modelling the range and on billboards "but they couldn’t get me to do the lingerie ones!"
There are the core ranges of practical and useful basics which women keep coming back for, but also fashion-forward trends of Aztec prints and Middle Eastern minimalism as well as a nod to the French Riviera in their 2009-10 summer collection.
Below: Cool cotton for high summer. A number of printed cotton shirred-top dresses and long-line tops appear in the Egg collection and Charlotte recommends wearing them either as strapless dresses or pulling them down to the hips as a skirt with another top.
With her third child due this spring, and undertaking the photo shoot while about 5 and 1/2 months pregnant, Charlotte was able to road test the garments through the development stages and believes that this collection is "the best yet."
Below: Charlotte says the lilac tunic is her favourite piece in the summer collection. Her least favourite look for pregnant women? Belly-barers. Cover up with a longer line top and leggings underneath for a flattering look.
“Being pregnant again has inspired me to come up with some great new pieces for summer. The warmer weather is great for being able to really express how we feel and the multipurpose pieces in this range, like the Silky Skirt Dress and Tulip Dress really let women do that,” says Charlotte, pictured below in the black swimsuit with ruched sides that adjust to allow the legline to be high or low.

Here’s what’s in-store for summer 09/10.
