It’s always interesting to see the outcome and success of collaborations. “Art for Artist’s Sake” saw artists creating art pieces which were later auctioned off, with the proceeds going to Youthline. On Sunday 17th October at Sale Street, the auction saw some recognizable faces as attendees including Anika Moa, Julia Deans, Hollie Smith and Jon Toogood.
This project, www.artforartistssake.com, was the brain child of Ren Kirk who was interested in seeing the boundaries between musicians and art being broken down.
Ren explains “I feel that the two are sometimes segregated and instead would like to see them working together.” Ren was happy with the positive responses she received from the musicians she approached, “all the art work created has been done off their own backs, for example the material used.”

The goal of this project was to create exposure for Youthline and donate funding to them. The choice of Youthline as the benefactor of this fundraising auction was due to Ren’s personal connection to the service they provide.
The core services that Youthline offer are Counselling Services, Training, Seminars and Programmes, Information and Referrals, Youth Worker Services, Community Development and Social Enterprise. They deliver an accessible support system for New Zealand youth who do not know where to go in their time of struggle.
Guest arrived at 5pm to view the pieces which they later bid for.
Isaac Aesili MCd the event while the experienced auctioneers from Art & Object provided for an entertaining bidding experience.
This collaboration was a definite success with a large sum received from the auction. Congratulations to Ren for a well put together collaboration and good work on all the artists involved.
