Some projects are extremely easy – party bunting is just pinking shears-cut triangles sewn onto bias binding – but others are a bit trickier to accomplish. Lots of these projects are appropriate for older children, and it’s such a great value to encourage in them to make things to give away as presents after creating it yourself. Nanas would love to receieve anything in this book.

You need a sewing machine for some projects and others just glue and so on. Chapters are divided into To Decorate, To Hang, To Use, and To Nest. Some of the stand-out projects were chalkboard paint storage pots and matchbox covers. Others are classics such as cushion covers and tea cup candles but this is a helpful guide for new crafters to learn the steps.

The layout is contemporary and stylish, and instructions with numbers to follow are clear and simple. The styling is fresh and charming, too.

The Art of Handmade Living: Crafting a beautiful home by Willow Crossley is distributed in New Zealand by Bookreps and retails for $47.99. www.bookreps.co.nz
