Here's The Brief

"I asked 5 photographers to make personal work and chose CanTeen as the charity…so far the project has made more than $10,000 so far for teens living with cancer." says Melissa Gardi…

‘I asked five photographers to create work for the brief – there was no project outline given except to make work that felt personal to them, and for the intention to be to sell the work to raise money for a good cause. Most of us know someone who lives with, or has lived with, cancer; four of the photographers in this exhibition has had immediate family members affected by cancer. CanTeen seemed like a perfect fit in terms of a charity. Besides the fact that most of the photographers work with teens, the 13-24 age group of cancer patients often get lost in the system. So far the project has made more than $12,000 and since the work will be travelling the country, and is available to purchase from www.the-brief.com, we hope that people will want to invest in a limited edition print – buying a piece knowing the money goes to a good cause.’

‘Those who can’t afford a photograph can buy a $20 raffle ticket (they will get a postcard sent to them) and if they’re the winner, they get to choose any piece from the show. We draw the winner on May 14. All profits go to CanTeen" says Melissa Gardi.

Each piece by NZ photographers is from a limited edition of five. The photographers are Jackie Meiring, Carolyn Haslett (below), David K Shields (above), Russ Flatt (intro image above) and Steve Tilley.
