New Zealand’s first art and design week held their gala opening on Friday 12 November with a lively exhibition in a Newmarket warehouse, presented by MoAD (Ministry of Art & Design) and UNITEC.
Taking the lead from design weeks held around the world, the exhibition space showcases the best in NZ design from largely ex-UNITEC students in a week from Saturday 13th to Sunday 21st November 2010.
The public are encouraged to visit to browse and shop, but also to return during the week to take part in a calendar of scheduled events, including artist floor talks and a Pecha Kucha night on Thursday, November 18th.
Thread liked that everything was available for sale – although I couldn’t afford much – but if you’re in the market for a beautiful piece of art or design this is the place to come. My husband did want to leave with a few pieces from The Boiler Room.

The exhibition is set to be an annual fixture and aims to build to a nationally and internationally recognized Art + Design week, showcasing New Zealand talent to a world audience.
MoAD (pronounced mode) is an Auckland based creative collective founded in 2008 by artists Aroha Lewin and Zekiah Heath with a primary vision to create opportunities for artists/designers and emerging New Zealand design brands, by organising events that enable its members to network and engage with the wider community.
