Hosted by New Zealand comedian Brendon Green, this show is a variation upon the ubiquitous panel show. Green is the host, and his dream is to have some sort of phenomenon named after himself – just as we have the Heimlich manoeuvre, or Boyle’s law, or Alzheimer’s syndrome, so too he wants us to have the Green Effect. The plan: come up with the perfect solution to one of the great issues facing humankind today. Whatever that perfect solution is will become known as the Green Effect.
Green is joined onstage by three different comedians at each show. He presents them with a problem, and they come up with solutions – and the audience votes for the best.
It’s a pretty good idea, but it could be a bit hit-and-miss. If any of the comics isn’t quite up to snuff, then that whole segment of the show falls over. That said, it’s a great chance to see some comics in action – much of the show is improvised, and that’s always when a comedian gets that chance to show whether they’re actually genuinely funny.
