We braved the cold and rain of an Auckland winter’s night to the far more graceful delights of a glass of bubbles and watching live dance performed, at the launch of the Tempo Dance Festival 2012.

Gus Fisher Gallery was the venue for the launch of Tempo Dance Festival 2012 on Tuesday 31 July, where we got to hear what’s in store for the festival beginning October 2012, and get a glimpse of works performed by three dancers.

There’s a wide-ranging programme on offer from mime, to cultural dance, dance for kids and teens, and burlesque and some R18 shows. Tempo 2012 and the Tempo launch are generously supported by Dance Studies and The University of Auckland.

Below: A jazz trio entertained at the launch.

An installation by a woman (perhaps the ocean) inside a plastic bag.

Delicious catering had us standing adjacent to the food tables all night.

Beautiful ballet dancer Brooke is about to leave NZ shortly, to study ballet in London.

She also features as the star of the Tempo campaign.

An Indian dancer had us mesmerised with her dress, and performed with bells on her ankles adding to the music.

Miss Phloss performed a burlesque strip tease wearing pink feathers and elbow-length gloves. Oh la la!
