I headed along with my mother to the stunning Sculpture On Shore exhibition held every two years at the historic Fort Takapuna military base in Devonport, aptly set in a place of natural beauty on the cliffs looking over Auckland Harbour to Rangitoto.

Open to the public until 18th November 2018, with ticket sales benefitting Womens Refuge charity, the outdoor gallery of sculptures large and small is ideal for families.

Indoors, you can find artworks to buy in a gallery setting. There’s a large cafe in a marquee or you may take your own food – and definitely sun hats.

Outdoors you will find sculpture by professional artists, and, down some steps, inside an old gun embankment building, is a local school sculpture awards, with art created by local children which was incredible and ideal for kids.
