This week we have something exciting; a guest blogger post by the incredibly stylish Aneta Page of Fashion Westie. Aneta is an Auckland mother of 3 young boys who is fabulously cool and we love her style. However, she says she is a make-up n00b and never knows how to apply make-up; so we sent her along to Smashbox in Ponsonby for a makeover, one-on-one with their makeup artist. Here’s what she said.
According to Youtube tutorials, twenty assorted products and tools plus the deft hand of a skilled MUA should deliver the ‘no make-up’ look I so desire. As a self-professed ‘make-up noob’ that idea is enough to deter me from updating my default look of smudgy eyeliner and mascara, let alone update my 3x item make-up kit and giving it a go.
When the opportunity came to have a make over with Smashbox Ponsonby, I jumped at the chance.
The store was a sleek black interior with the product range presented in a way you couldn’t help but touch and play. Seated nervously in front of a large mirror surrounded by lights the artist soon made me feel at ease, asking what look I wanted to achieve, my preferences and making suggestions during the session to coach me from noob to capable level.
I discovered there is value in primers and concealers and a good base is half the battle. I also learned creating eye looks that transition from day to night only requires a few good neutrals, a blending brush and a great mascara.
I gratefully received the Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio in ‘Litho’ which contains three perfect neutrals to highlight, colour, contour or line and have put them to use daily since.
The experience was fun and confidence boosting. I learned techniques I can use and have already invested in more products and tools to replicate the look I was given. I would definitely recommend booking a session next time you have a special event or want to freshen your everyday look.
Here are the photos from my makeover…
