INIKA ambassador Michael Brown shares makeup tips

As the colder weather sets in, we need to change our makeup look. Here’s a beautiful yet simple winter makeup face, created by INIKA ambassador and celebrity makeup artist, Michael Brown.

Thread attended the beauty media event to hear first-hand from Michael as he shared his tips and pro techniques using Inika primer, foundation, and colour cosmetics.

What’s your idea of a perfect ‘winter makeup’?

“For this winter, less is more”, said Brown. “When creating a winter face this season, it’s not about using multiple products, or overtly defining all the features. Keep it simple with a clean base and seek to achieve a glow from within. Add an edgy eye with a subtle shading using a mix of dark and light liners paired with a golden eye shadow, and keep the lip ‘soft’ in balance”, said Brown.

Focus on the eye

Brown beautifully captures the essence of winter ’14 with INIKA’s all natural colour palette through this combination of darker eye and soft lip which he says is “ideal for most skin tones”. And giving emphasis to the eye as the most dramatic and alluring of facial features is a classic approach, which Brown describes as enduringly chic.

Start with a great foundation – and primer

To create the look, begin by blending INIKA Organic Pure Primer and INIKA Organic Liquid Foundation on the back of your hand. Blending the two products provides the skin with an extra moisture boost, which is essential in the cooler months. Apply using the INIKA Foundation Brush, starting at the nose and chin, before finishing with the cheeks, eyes and forehead, blending as you go.

Contour with Bronzer

A great tool for contouring is the INIKA Organic Sunkissed Mineral Bronzer, which can be placed under the cheekbone and eye socket. Tap a small amount of the Bronzer into the pot lid and use the INIKA Kabuki Brush to line the cheekbones and eye socket.

Add light and Highlights

The INIKA Organic Champagne Crème Colour Eye Shadow can double as a highlighter on all ‘high’ points of the face to add light. Using a small amount on your fingertips, apply the crème to the bridge of your nose, tops of your cheekbone, centre of your chin and on your cupids bow.

To create the eye, smudge INIKA Organic Cocoa Mineral Liner into the lash line and socket for greater depth and shading. Apply INIKA Organic Mineral Eye Shadow in Forest Gold to the upper eye lid using the INIKA Eye Shadow Brush and finish with INIKA Organic Mineral Eye Liner in Purple Minx by adding it to the centre of the top and lower lash line…which allows the eye to ‘pop’.
