I try: Mineralogie mineral makeup

I love discovering amazing make-up brands that I hadn’t tried before, especially when they are now sold in New Zealand so we can find them easily and not have to go through the extra bother of shopping for them from the States. So it is with Mineralogie mineral makeup. It’s a hugely popular brand overseas but has only just made it to our shores and I was lucky enough to receive a preview box of products to try out.

About the brand

Mineralogie is a USA-based brand of  100% mineral makeup made using the best pharmaceutical grade minerals available. It was begun in 2003 by founder Mary Van – a Mum, a makeup artist, and a lover of the outdoors and sports – who wanted to create a makeup that would provide nourishment of the skin with complete UVA and UVB broad spectrum protection.

Eco, sustainable, and animal cruelty-free

They have put their company through a green transformation to be committed to eco sustainability. As such, no products are ever tested on animals, and all outer box product packaging is printed using soy ink on recycled papers from sustainable tree farms.

Natural mineral makeup

Minerals are free of talc, starch, perfume, dye and other unhealthy ingredients typically found in traditional cosmetics. The Loose Mineral Foundation protects skin from the sun’s harmful rays and contains antioxidants such as Vitamin A and E.

Mineralogie Pressed Mineral Blush Duo

Mineralogie Pressed Mineral Blush Duo ($49.95) is a combination two-tone mirrored compact in a sleek, attractive black compact 7cm across with a generous amount of product inside the pan. It is what I’d call a blush bronzer, as it has the darker shade, a terracotta brown shade called Riviera (I suppose recalling French starlets in the South of France en route to the Cannes Film Festival!) as well as a dusky-pink shade called Sunset, referencing the peachy pink hue of an evening sky. One could use each shade separately as a blusher or bronzer, but the idea is that you blend with your blush brush, tap off excess, then blend over cheeks for a beautiful, healthy warm glow.

Mineralogie Candle

This scented candle came in a gorgeous elegant black glass jar in the scent, Bella donna. Love!

Brush-on Brow

The Brush-on Brow is a small wand in a tube, containing a medium to deep brown brow colour. It is a fast and easy way to groom brows and fill in sparse brows to give fullness and shape, and represents a convenient and quick way to shape and colour your brows. It would also be excellent for travel or popping into your handbag as it is small and light and can’t spill. I found this brown shade very rich and deep, and perhaps too dark for me so I would go for the Light shade. Brush-on Brow retails for $34.

Mineralogie lipstick

I’m wearing Mineralogie lipstick $38 in Belladonna right now, and it’s an extremely wearable deep brick-red colour that feels amazingly comfortable to wear and is very hydrating on the lips as it’s rich in grape seed oil, jojoba oil and avocado. The lipstick is a matte creme formulation and applies smoothly and has an excellent pigment depth and colour. I really love this colour and it goes with everything.
