Color Show Nails
The Color Show nail collection grows even stronger, with the release of new colours in the 60 Seconds nail lacquer range including the brights 335 Broadway Blues and 312 Wow Orange, pictured. Perfect for a bright colour pop and very on-trend.
Dr Rescue for nails
Also for nails, comes these three nail care products: Dr. Rescue all-in-one base, top coat and strengthener; Gel Effect Top Coat, and CC Nails Base Coat to brighten and conceal imperfections on nails. Megan Robinson tried out the Dr.Rescue Gel Effect. “I painted the gel effect over my existing nailpolish and it did create a clear, shiny coat that did look like gels. I think I should have let my nailpolish colour dry longer first though as it went gluggy with the gel coat, so I recommend only using it on VERY dry polish. A great product for the price.”
FIT me! Matte + Poreless foundation
The latest-and-greatest release from the popular and low-priced FIT me! range, Matte + Poreless foundation is a normal to oily skin liquid foundation designed to mattify if your skin tends towards oiliness, and to cover pores if large pores are a concern as is often the case with oily skin. And it’s not only teenagers that complain of this problem, but all ages. The shade pictured below is 220 Natural Beige.
Maybelline New York Lash Sensational RRP: $23.99
Having long been a fan of Maybelline Great Lash mascara I was interested to see what else was on offer from the affordable cosmetic giant. The New Lash Sensational Mascara is being touted for its new silicon brush (also seen in Benefit’s new Roller lash, as well as other brands) which is a welcome departure from the typical brush of other mascaras but I think its real appeal is in its ability to give true definition to the lashes and for the fact that it stays on so well. I find that many other mascaras tend to end up above and below my lashes quite quickly but this one stayed right where it should for the entire day (and then took a bit of taking off). If you are looking for thick lashes I might give this one a miss but given that my four year old son noticed that I was wearing this mascara immediately I will definitely be keeping it in my make-up bag.
Maybelline New York Eye Shadow Pallet The Nudes RRP: $29.99
Following on from the success of premium brands doing nude palettes of eyeshadow shades such as Urban Decay’s Naked2 palette and Smashbox’s Full Exposure, this latest offering from Maybelline is one of the most affordable out there. It offers 12 gorgeous colours in one pallet. Personally, I never venture far from the nude or smoky eye look and this will remain a staple for me given that the pallet is pleasingly arranged in complementary combinations of Duos, Trios and Quads to take you from a more subtle daytime look to the full smoky eye. The number of shades mean that you can play around to assess the best look for your skin tone and the helpful instructions on the back make it a great investment.
Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Molten RRP: 13.99
As promised the new micro-gel pigmentation formula found in this eyeshadow really does make it melt and glide onto the skin. The Molten colour is a fantastic dramatic addition to the night-time look with just enough shimmer to add some extra zing to the smoky eye. The combination of the nude shade with the dramatic inky black make it the perfect team for a simple but effective statement that is easy to apply. Below: Nude and Black, and 304 Sapphire Mist grey and navy blue duo.
Maybelline New York Eye Studio Brow Precise RRP: 18.99
While I’m rather late to the strong eyebrow craze I have to say that this product really does deliver what it promises. I’ve always had rather strong – albeit a bit patchy – eyebrows and after using this pencil and built-in grooming brush, I may be a convert to the look. The pencil is easy to apply and the effects are instant. The brush is a nice addition and makes me wonder why I haven’t been using one of these all along. Again, it’s an affordable investment that probably could not be matched by more expensive brands.
Maybelline New York Eye Studio Brow Drama RRP: 14.99
Maybelline is continuing with its exciting brush innovations with this brow sculptor. It looks very similar to the Ankylosaurus in my son’s dinosaur book with its thin body and fat tail but the idea is that it coats the brows perfectly and without any lumps. While there is a tinted one as well, I tried the transparent brow sculptor with the brow pencil mentioned above and the result was a much stronger and tidier brow. It is also refreshingly un-sticky and gentle to use so it won’t feel like you’re covering your brows in gel. Again, a good, affordable staple for any make-up kit.
Maybelline New York Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick RRP: 19.99
While the name may be quite a mouthful, Maybelline’s new spring lipsticks offer some great pick me ups to winter’s dreariness. While there are a number of hot pink and coral shades to choose from my favourite was Blushing Bud which offered a rich pink colour without being too Barbie Doll in shade. I’m not great at using lip liners but the colour stayed on pleasantly long enough without drying out my lips. This colour could provide a great contrast to an all-black outfit or a fun clash with red and the smell makes me want to take a bite of it! Below: Blushing Bud and 710 Petal Pink.
