We take a look at beautiful new makeup out for Summer, from Benefit, ARTDECO, Australis, Smashbox and Nvey Eco, shot against my childhood Summer book…
I shot these summery new treats against a backdrop of my childhood ‘Summer’ book. This book was given to me, the inscription inside reads, for Christmas when I was 3, and cost only $2.25 back then which shows how long ago that was.
If we look at the season summed up in one word, it’s Autumn = rustic, Winter = dramatic, Spring = pretty, and Summer = colour. Summer makeup is characterised typically by stronger brights following on from the pretty pastels of Spring, the black eye and red lip of Winter, and the warm browns of Autumn. The new season’s make-up featured here has pops of colour to freshed up your summer look.
First up, Smashbox ‘Wonder Vision’ eye set in Cosmic. When you say “wonder vision” out loud, it sounds just “one division” which sounds like a football league or boy band, neither of which are the remotest like this lovely eyeshadow compact. This is a wonderful vision of sapphire and aqua – both colours that remind one of summertime at the seaside – with silver to shimmer, and sandstone to blend. Available at Smashbox concept store on Ponsonby Road and www.smashboxcosmetics.co.nz
The packaging for this limited edition ARTDECO compact for eyeshadows and blush is designed by Julia Pelzer, a young illustrator. Her range features nails in bright colours, and a graphic pattern in the exclusive Colour & Style design. Below: Trio compact, ARTDECO naillacquer in 82 green, ARTDECO Dip Eyeliner in 5 teal green and ARTDECO eyeshadow singles in 410, 441 and 426. Available in New Zealand at Farmers stores. www.farmers.co.nz
If you’re wanting to try a new brand, holiday gift sets are a perfect place to start. They’re also ideal for travel – and I took this one with me on my beach holiday in New Zealand this week. Benefit Cosmetics’ ‘Groovy Kind-a Love” makeup kit ($85) shares the love with small yet perfectly formed miniatures of their most popular hero items. There’s a POREfessional pore minimising balm, Benetint lip and cheek tint, and They’re Real mascara, as well as full sized eyeshadows in wearable shadesto suit everyone and a satin and shimmery blusher. If you use the brown eyeshadow Kiss me I’m tipsy for your brows, there’s everything here needed for your face, if you have a BB cream or foundation along for the ride in your luggage. Buy Benefit at Smith & Caughey’s stores – or, better yet if you’re about to travel- at a tax free price at J R Duty Free at Auckland Airport.
