Hospitality industry experts have spoken. The inaugural Capital Awards, showcasing Wellington’s top talent within the hospitality industry have been awarded for 2010.

The Awards, marketed by boutique company Chilli Marketing, were held at the Paramount Theatre where Nicolas Feuillatte champagne – the number one selling champagne in France – flowed. Capital Awards Committee Chairman Blair Fryer opened the event.

The after-party was held at the Skyline Restaurant, overlooking Wellington harbour. Guests wore Sass & Bide, Bettina Liano and Kathryn Wilson with a touch of vintage pearls noted.

Kayla Ward, below, remarked that the Awards were “really deserved by those who won them” and that “next year will see an even bigger and better event”.

Wellington has become one of New Zealand’s top destinations for a weekend away to sample the fashion, ambience, wine and restaurants. Did we mention the cafes? The capital also has the most cafes per capita. Back in the 1960’s, coffee bar Matterhorn in Cuba Street was well-known for its continental cakes. It has now been awarded with Outstanding Sommelier, Outstanding Drinks List and Outstanding Wine List.
