David Jones opens in Wellington

David Jones opened its doors in Wellington today after a VIP black carpet last night. Thread.co.nz’s Wellington fashion writers Rhiana Clarke of Kasey & Co blog, and Teesh Saunders @littlemissteesh, were there to capture it on social media for us, and here are their images.

BLACK CARPET 

Last night more than 150 VIPs joined New Zealand Prime Minister, Right Hon John Key at a black carpet cocktail party to unveil a commemorative plaque and welcome the retail giant to Lambton Quay.

Today, Thursday 28th July, the gorgeous David Jones Ambassador Jessica Gomes cut the ribbon to open the new Wellington store, with an audience of happy customers, and David Jones Chairman Ian Moir and David Jones Chief Executive Officer, John Dixon. Mr Dixon said, “We’re excited to offer our customers at David Jones Wellington a premium retail experience on par with the best department stores globally. We’ve worked hard to inject a level of ambience, excitement and experience into our design, store content, product assortment and services that will provide our customers New Zealand with a world class shopping experience.”

The store has a 178 year history but is incredibly up-to-the-minute, and will be stocking the latest fashion and accessories brands including a number of international brands not previously stocked in New Zealand, in the old Kirkcaldie & Stains department store building, following a $20+ million refurbishment.

NEW ZEALAND BRANDS

Wellington will be represented with its own twenty-seven names, alongside top NZ fashion brands Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester and Saben, and menswear brand Rodd & Gunn, joining Sabatini and Trelise Cooper which are both already stocked in David Jones stores in Australia.

INTERNATIONAL BRANDS

Brands include Camilla, CAMILLA AND MARC, Lover, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Anthony Squires, Manning Cartell, Ginger & Smart, Jac + Jack, Bassike, Bec & Bridge, Viktoria + Woods, Tigerlily, Shona Joy, The Upside, C/MEO Collective, Mink Pink, Saba, Anthea Crawford, Studio W and Simone Perele.
