It is true, what you wear does make a difference.
Many Auckland women are gaining the confidence to succeed in the workforce by looking great and feeling good.
After her five-year relationship ended, Aucklander Tania Armstrong (pictured left) was left to pick up the pieces.
“I was on my own with two children and a mortgage to pay. My self esteem and confidence was at an all time low,” she says. “It was a struggle surviving week to week and when I landed an interview, there was the realisation that there was nothing in my wardrobe suitable to wear.”
Ms Armstrong was referred by In-Work New Zealand Limited to Dress for Success Auckland. After a consultation, Ms Armstrong walked away with a whole new outfit, including shoes and a handbag, and with her new found confidence, she landed a job.
Dress for Success is a not-for-profit organisation with branches across New Zealand, who help women to get employment through their wardrobe.
“Dressing successfully made me feel successful,” says Ms Armstrong.
Executive Manager of Dress for Success Auckland, Julie Mackey, believes that the confidence women gain through what they wear is invaluable and underrated.
“The difference an hour makes with a personal dresser, some conversation and a new outfit is amazing. They leave completely different women,” says Ms Mackey.
Dress for Success has helped over 8,000 women since February this year and has worked with several New Zealand designers, including Annah Stretton.
