With the surprise guest of a racehorse greeting us at the entrance, Ellerslie Races launched its 2013 racing season with a party at Sofitel Auckland on 24th October.
It was definitely the only party to have a live racehorse in attendance and it really made the event stand out from your usual cocktail party. Short of having the horse, Xcellent, walk into the actual hotel as Bianca Jagger famously did at Studio 54, it was the best combination of fashion and horsepower around.
Ellerslie Races has a new slogan, ‘Hearts Racing’, which, as a lover of fine puns, I approve of strongly. Celebrities in hats and heels mingled amongst Ellerslie’s guests and Ambassador and supermodel Kylie Bax, (no stranger to horses herself), and raceday fashion judge Colin Mathura-Jeffree.
A lucky door ticket won one guest $1000 air travel on Qantas and for everyone else, it was a ticket to a great night and a fun launch to the Race season.
