Curate celebrated opening in Britomart with a party on Wednesday 28th September in the light and airy space that stocks top NZ labels including Sylvester, Sabatini, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Cybele, Taylor, TK and more…

Wednesday night saw the opening of Curate in Auckland’s Britomart; a collaboration between Paul and Jill Blomfield and many of New Zealand’s best designers – including Cybele, Salasai, Sylvester, Sabatini, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Cybele, Chaos and Harmony, Saben, Kagi, Taylor, TK and more

– it is an exciting one-stop shop for all things fashion.

The intense dark structure of the building itself is the first thing that strikes you, designed by Cheshire Architects, with interior by the charming design duo Olivia Harper and Toni Brandso from Material Creative www.materialcreative.co.nz

Though the all-black structure is very intense, the girls have managed to imbue it with a softness. Wood structures to handle the clothes, soft hand-stitched wool light shades (from Essenze in Parnell) and old vintage cabinets and the yet to arrive large circular rugs – give it a real warmth. The changing rooms are massive and were designed so that the mirrored back walls can be covered with curtains to change the feel of the place. Clever.

Guests filled the place to capacity on Wednesday 28th September

and were treated to a short fashion show from the 15 designers represented. There was a short speech from Paul thanking everyone involved, especially his lovely wife Jill.

So if you want to see some outstanding New Zealand design – be it fashion or architectural – Curate is somewhere you need to head.
