If you’re looking for a reference that is an encyclopedic knowledge of fashion designers as well as a beautiful tome, and have $625 to spend, look no further than Taschen’s Fashion Designers A-Z.
This is a fascinating account drawing from 100 of the greatest fashion designers of the 20th and 21st centuries who are featured in the permanent collection of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, by Valerie Steele, et al., and foreword by Suzy Menkes.
This first printing comes as a series of limited editions with different covers, bound in fabric by Diane von Furstenberg, Akris, Stella McCartney, Prada, Missoni, and Etro, in a Plexiglass box – safe from any champagne that may come its way.
From Alaia to Westwood, the designers are organized from A–Z rather than chronologically as you often see in textbooks, so you get the lovely feeling of seeing fashions from across many decades as you leaf through all next to each other.
Alongside the photos that as well as know speak a thousand words, the copy by the curators is invaluable for an extra few hunded. The intellengent and knowledgeable text explains the relevance in fashion history and context of each name, and the merits of the garments they have chosen to include and why.
This is a fabulous reference addition to fashion schools and a very collectable and covetable book for all lovers of fashion.
Published by TASCHEN and distributed in New Zealand by New Holland New Zealand.
