Here are all the details for the 2012 NZ Fashion Festival happening on K’Rd with plenty of free events including industry experts panel Fashion Speed Dating, wearable arts event Paper Dolls, and the First Thursdays events to boot…

Fashion Speed Dating
6-8pm Friday 24 Feb
Cross Street Arcade, 214 K Road
The idea is to give emerging those new to the fashion industry and aspiring designers the opportunity to meet knowledgeable people across the industry. Learn from ten fashion experts: Amanda Linnell, Editor VIVA; James Dobson of Jimmy D; WE’AR Yoga Clothing & Street Wear; Cybele; Norrie Montgomery of The A List; Diane Ludwig, Fashion Business Advisor and New Zealand Fashion Museum Trustee; Terry Redman, Paula Ryan Product Manager; Andrew Trott, Artistic Director of Trelise Cooper Group; Dan Ahwa, fashion stylist; and AUT School of Fashion are the fabulous ‘Dates’ to offer their services.

Emerging designers, bloggers, fashion students get the opportunity to ask everything they ever wanted to know. You must register to attend, with only 30 places available. Please phone 377 5086 or email planning@kroad.com to book.

Paper Dolls
6-8pm Friday 24 Feb
Cross Street Arcade, 214 K Road
This is a recycle/wearable arts event. Three designers are chosen ahead of time by a panel and on the night those three designers are teamed up with three mannequins and three piles of paper offcuts. There will be professional judging on the night and a super prize for the winner. This is going to be great spectator sport and will be held alongside Fashion Speed Dating in the newly renovated Cross Street Arcade at 214 K Road. Designers wanting to participate need to apply by 3 February. Only 3 places available. Please phone 377 5086 or email planning@kroad.com to book.

First Thursdays (all events below):

6-9pm Thursday 1 March
Held across 25 venues with several high-note fashion focused events on the programme. The line-up also includes heritage home-craft workshops, fashion on bikes and live body art.

The Dress-up Box:
Designer Margaret Lewis and her friends and are giving people the chance to try on unique garments. From Miromoda at Fashion Week to Cult Couture and Style Pasifika, these designers have been turning heads. Try and buy the designs of Czarina Wilson, Kiri Nathan, Margaret Lewis and Shona Tawhiao.

What the Frock:
A street installation along K Road, What The Frock is a collaborative work involving fashion, recycling and repurposed materials curated by The Big Idea. Enter at www.thebigidea.co.nz

Heritage Homecraft Workshop:
Doris de Pont from the New Zealand Fashion Museum presents Heritage Homecraft Skills. Learn how to hem a frock, wash different textiles or make a treasured garment last longer. Includes specialist information on mending and washing vintage garments. BYO garment or practice on a sampler, with fabric, needles and threads supplied. Blogger Closet Raid:
New Zealand’s first Blogger Closet Raid will be held as a part of First Thursdays and during the NZ Fashion Festival. Dedicated followers and readers will get a valuable chance meet their favourite bloggers and rummage through their highly-coveted surplus threads, jewels and other desirable goodies.
