See our photos at the Gus Fisher Gallery for the Gala Opening on Friday 7th October, of the Intellectual Fashion Show 2016 – a multimedia response to June Black’s 1959 exhibition. The exhibition was a collaborative project between Sheridan Keith (Blikfang Art and Antiques), Janie van Woerden (MA) and Doris De Pont from NZ Fashion Museum.
Throughout her life, June Black compiled a veritable wardrobe of metaphorical costumes: Costume to get onto one’s high horse, Costume to be worn over a heavy heart, Costume to extend exalted moments, Costume to face the ultimate discomfit of the guillotine, the gallows or the dentist…
The gala was a chance to dress up in one of June Black’s costumes or devise a costume of your own after your own heart or intellect.
The NZ Fashion Museum took pictures on the night for inclusion in the Chic to Chic social pages for the magazine catalogue of the exhibition to be launched at the Gus Fisher Gallery on 22 October 2016 at 3pm.
