Georgia Pratt AW13 Collection Launch
I had the pleasure of attending the launch of AUT graduate Georgia Pratt’s winter collection and as usual the fresh talent that is emerging out of little old Auckland blew me away.
The launch was held at Miss Crabb on Ponsonby Road, where the range was absolutely fitting with designers Kristine Crabb and Kate Megaw, who own the store.
The talented Miss Pratt has worked for Kristine Crabb (of label Miss Crabb) for over a year, managing the workroom and production of the label. During this time she has been quietly working on her own collection, modelling, and organising the Arrange collective runway show that was held in October at Flagship Studio.
Despite her busy schedule Georgia managed to produce an absolutely flawless first collection. Her style is smooth and sleek, with a strong focus on simplicity and shape. Three long coats were on offer, all made of beautifully luxurious wool blends, with dropped shoulders, slouchy pockets, and optional belts.
There’s something super cool about a coat that reminds you a little of Hugh Hefner just before he slips into bed at night, but still makes you feel feminine and sexy. The rest of the range was made up of delicate silk t-shirts that reveal just enough back, wrap skirts, and flowing dresses that could be worn with a low neck or plunging back.
The thing I like most about the range is its ability to be worn by absolutely anyone, completely eliminating the concept of body size or shape. All the staff members were proudly decked out in the Georgia Pratt dresses, which looked different on each of the girls but equally as glorious.
In general the evening was relaxed and elegant, and there were numerous purchases made by those who attended – which was a testament to the quality of her collection.
It was the perfect way for the young designer to say goodbye to Auckland and hello to New York where there is no question she will be met with open arms.
