Zambesi has a coat in the Synergy of Art and Fashion Exhibition organised by the extraordinary Kara&Co in Moscow, travelling Paris, Sydney, Seoul, Shanghai and Berlin, to be then auctioned for children’s hearing charity The Sound World…
Synergy of Art and Fashion Exhibition
We often forget how world class our fashion is. It is an easy thing to know how influential, and talented Zambesi is here in New Zealand – but we often forget how admired and coveted they are outside of our shores.
Zambesi are stocked around the world, but particularly in the extraordinary Kara&Co in Moscow, Russia. They are rated, along with our own The Department Store in Takapuna, as one of the top ten boutiques in the world.
This company, whose motto is “no logos, fashion only” have chosen to do things with their own vision of art, fashion, food, music and literature meshed into one space in between two art galleries in the Winzavod Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow.
They started their charity, The Sound World, in 2009 to help underprivileged children with hearing impairments. This year they have collaborated with Liz Findlay from Zambesi as well as many other world-class designers, for their Synergy of Art and Fashion Exhibition.
Some of the other designers participating are Akira Isogawa (Australia), Casey Vidalenc (France, Great Britain), Charlie Le Mindu (France), Queenie and Belle (Great Britain) and Jean Paul Knott (Belgium).
The designers submitted a piece of clothing and a piece of art, although it could be argued the line between the two is quite indistinct at times. The exhibition was held at the beginning of March in Paris during Fashion Week 2011-2012 and is curated by the Paris-based American artist Sean McGinnis. After the exhibition finished in Paris – it ran from 4 – 7th March- it moved on to Moscow, and from there it will continue on to Sydney, Seoul, Shanghai and Berlin. At the final exhibition there will be an auction to benefit the charity.
The piece submitted by Zambesi is a coat that is part of the current collection called Cruella which is available here in New Zealand in a wool lace called Fretwork.
It is a pleasant reminder that we are not as insignificant on the world scene as we sometimes think we are.
Good luck Zambesi and what a ‘sound’ investment this coat will make!
