NZ Fashion Festival Week

Amidst the pretty floral dresses on the racks at Cherry Bishop on Karangahape Road, I learned how to zigzag stitch a hem.

Being around creative designer experts and industry legends Doris Du Pont; who was the speaker and Cherry Bishop, who was hosting the event, could have been quite daunting but they were relaxed, friendly and happy to share their fashion knowledge and experience.

14 people attended; 10 to learn to sew, with an age range from 14 to 60. One participant had never threaded a needle before.

In addition to the sewing lesson, we learned how to launder and care for our garments, even down to getting a couple of Ecostore Delicates and Wool laundry sachets to try, as Doris recommends these for any hand-washing.

"Doris de Pont is a star performer and so knowledgeable and Cherry Bishop a charming host" says Barbara Holloway, Precinct Manager of The Karangahape Road Business Association. "Everybody loved it and there were lots of laughs."

What a great way to learn a new skill during the 2011 Fashion Festival.
