Imitation or flattery?

it is usually heard that NZ clothing copies international labels, but what of the NZ labels being copied themselves? We ask NZ designers about counterfeits and copies in the local fashion industry…

Imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery. But not when it’s your intellectual property – through yoru creativity – being used to some one’s profit. I used to own two stores and had a nother store come in wihtout trying garments on and buy them which made me suspicious until I visited their store in Hamiltn and they had my clothing on their rack. At a higher price, I might add.

Hey just saw your post about the Walk In Wardrobe Karen Walker fake eyewear… I haven’t been scammed myself, infact I sold KW replicas on there with great success and made sure that EVERYONE knew they were in fact REPLICAS and not the real Karen Walker eyewear!
The girls were absolutely fine about buying the replicas and not the real ones. I myself own Karen Walker sunnies and paid $300+ for them only to have them break on the 2nd week of wearing them. I’m a student who works part time and to spend that much money on cheap plastic made me so angry. I’ve since heard soo many stories from other girls on Walk in Wardrobe who had the same thing occur to them, pay ALOT of money on KW sunnies only to have them break within weeks of buying them therefore they decided to buy the replicas off me.
I started to buy the replicas because when I pay that much money for a product I expect it to last long and be excellent quality – especially if it’s from a NZ designer. But the fact that they broke within a few weeks of wear just goes to show how sometimes designers can infact rip off customers, so now I would rather pay $20 on cheap KW replicas that I don’t mind breaking/losing/having as spare sunnies rather than pay $300+ on a label. And I’m sure alot of other girls feel the same way.
It’s unfortunate that people are scamming people into buying these replicas and not telling the customer that they are infact fakes, that’s a real shame. But people need to be very weary of Walk in Wardrobe because more often than not the intentions of some people on that site are not very good at all.
Just had to share this with you! Thanks
