Ruby last night welcomed their new label Liam into the fold with a buzzing launch in Newmarket for their first collection, accompanied by the sweet sounds of local band Watercolours.
The first collection, AW12, is influenced by the idea of ‘modern ceremony’: the rituals we incorporate, knowingly or not, into our lives.
Alongside the beautiful new threads by designer Emily Miller-Sharma, special Liam candles were lit all around the space and will be sold in store: the ceremony of lighting a gorgeous smelling candle is one we all love.
Below: Watercolours – who played at the Liam collection at NZ Fashion Week 2010 – entertains the guests.
The look of the AW12 collection is unmistakably Ruby, but with Liam leading the playful and feminine themes into a slightly more sophisticated realm. Soft neutrals are accented by bold tangerine, teal, ruby red and brilliant blue.
The achingly pretty Afternoon Delight pantsuit features buttons at the rear to the low scooped back neckline.
The slight sparkle in the versatile Golden shorts will see you through day and into the evening, and like so many pieces in the collection, is equally good for the office or for play. The balance of modern and classic, soft and strong in this collection has been honed to perfection.
Check out the ‘friends’ section on rubynz.com to see the lookbook and listen to the podcasts presented by Charlotte Ryan, chatting to some well-known personalities about modern ceremonies.
If slipping on a silky new dress from the first Liam collection and heading out to face the day is a ceremony, then it’s one I’m happy to perform!
