St Kevin’s Arcade on K Road always feels a bit like a hidden treasure.
It has this lovely timeless quality to it – and you feel a bit lucky to even know where it is, and with the iconic Alleluya Café at its heart, it has most of my favourite shops in Auckland.
With Children of Vision (James Dobson of Jimmy D’s home base) and the best-kept interiors secret in Auckland – The Front Room (with its glorious velvet covers, cushions and curios), it is a must to visit.
That said, I am fascinated how few Aucklanders know about it.
And now there is another very good reason for visiting.
Maaike + Co opened with drinks last week, and Thread was there.
Maaike (pronounced My-kah) and Co are the charming Abbey van Schreven and Emilie Pullar. Since their start in 2010 these girls have been doing great things – and have a strong cohesive vibe to their collections already.
They have supplemented their own label with Kowtow and Nyne, as well as shoes from Chaos & Harmony. The store is simple and all the labels fit well together. The girls are lovely – and will go to get lengths to find you something that is just right.
We think the label Kowtow is a great fit (so to speak) – with fabulous basics in black and navy that are traditionally hard to find, with great bottoms and tees made from ethically-sourced cotton. We loved them (and we might have bought a couple while we were looking around the shop…)
We also might possibly have ordered the fabulous Riot Cardy ($590) while we were there – it was impossible to resist.
It was a great night – and a great start for a glorious little store. Go visit.
