I love how Auckland is so small that you are constantly meeting people who just happen to be an artist or a designer or something else equally as creative.
It’s always at the most random places and usually while they are doing their day job. I was at the Cybele new season launch a few weeks ago, where in true serendipity, I met one of the shop girls who also happened to be a rather spectacular photographer. Meet Maddy Askwith.
This young lady is going places! Spending the last year or so on the mean streets of London, she was back in New Zealand for on a matter of weeks when I met her and had already done a shoot for Remix magazine. That is a pretty big deal – as it can sometimes take photographers years before they are published, let alone in a medium as acclaimed in the industry as Remix.
Maddy is now in New York where she plans to stay for the next year, and I can only guess her already impressive skills will go from strength to strength.
