For designers, students of fashion, and anyone at all interested in New Zealand Fashion Design, the weighty new tome from Te Papa Press is a must-have.

New Zealand Fashion Design ($120.00) is a fully-illustrated celebration of contemporary New Zealand designers. A first of its kind on our shores, this highly-anticipated work is sure to earn its place as the ultimate New Zealand fashion bible.

The book features illuminating one-on-one interviews with top designers such as Karen Walker, Zambesi and World, and is accompanied by more than 500 full-colour images of garments, editorial, illustrations and show scenes.

Thread especially enjoyed the little tidbits of information such as the ages of all NZ designers (some surprises there) and that Cybele’s middle name is Snowflake. The glossary of fashion terms was also really useful and the chronological history of NZ fashion events talk us down memory lane.

In all, this is a book that will become a source of reference for anyone interested in NZ fashion and an indispensible – and thoroughly fascinating – guide.
