Okewa – Rainwear like you’ve never seen it
I cannot be the only person recently who has been drowned on a school, coffee or general errand run and left soggily lamenting a gap in their wardrobe – a raincoat for those days when a large, thick coat is too much, a jacket too little and you really, really need a hood (ever tried holding an umbrella during a Wellington southerly? Exactly), or you just need something that packs easily into your weekender.
Designed by Wellingtonians (we know our wind and rain!) and made in Auckland by a family-run manufacturer, Okewa Rainwear’s “The First Five” is subject to a live and popular Kickstarter campaign, running until 24th August 2014.
My pick and top of my shopping list is the Women’s Trench.
Who are and what is Okewa Rainwear?
Okewa means long grey raincloud in Maori. Designers and husband and wife team Nevada and Nick Leckie, drawing on backgrounds in fashion and architecture, have created a range of well designed, beautiful and stylish but completely waterproof, sturdy raincoats suitable for urban city living. They have created a perfect marriage of style and functionality, and I may have done a happy dance in their honour.
Why are they awesome?
I can tell you, but you really want to see for yourself, so head on over to www.kickstarter.com and check out their Kickstarter campaign and exciting designs. Okewa Raincoats are designed by New Zealand designers, made by New Zealanders in a New Zealand factory. Win!
