Reuse and recycle are the buzzwords today, and we agree when it comes to fashion. This is an ethos held strongly by Encore Designer recycle, who have added a Newmarket store to their famous store, with a longterm popup boutique at 18 Osborne Street in Newmarket.

I popped by to check out the boutique, and met the owner, Siddhi Smith, who has run Encore for 11 of the past 30 years it’s been in business.

It’s basically an Auckland institution. Siddhi wanted to add a Newmarket location to appeal to the residents of the Eastern suburbs who may not shop in Ponsonby – plus their Ponsonby store was overflowing with beautiful pieces.

So, how does Encore work? You bring in your clothes (new, not vintage), footwear, jewellery and accessories in and they choose what we think will sell, and you get cash when it sells at 45% of the net selling price (NB: they give 55% for top NZ labels for example Karen Walker, Trelise Cooper, Zambesi, Helen Cherry and Nom D) or you can get 55% to spend on other items instore.

And remember, you’ve got to be in fast as there’s only one of everything!
