It is built in a heritage style with aged wooden and metal interior. A curved facade makes a striking impact from the Ponsonby Road entrance. Fashion bags store Saben is already inside, and homewares brand Wallace Cotton, and many bars and food retailers including Kapiti and Neat Meat.
With a retail deadline looming of lucrative Christmas shopping and Christmas parties and drinks all only a few weeks out, it opened in the nick of time. Ponsonby Centre is the latest retail centre to hit Auckland and is an optimistic revitalisation of the corner of Ponsonby and Richmond Roads. It comes at a time when many doors are still empty – or are filled with short term lease clearance and dollar shops – all around town, after what has hopefully been the worst of global financial crisis. Here’s to a successful future for the retail and hospitality centre.
Speaking of the ‘nick’ of time, the first ever Nick Von K pop up shop opens in the new Ponsonby Central market tomorrow on 23 November for the run up to Christmas. Nick Von K promises to offer a "unique retail environment, complete with comfy leather arm chairs."
