Rockabilly Retro – Rita Sue

Rita Sue is a specialist boutique offering ‘vintage inspiration to the modern femme fatale’, and stocks a fabulous range of retro, rockabilly, pin up, psychobilly, burlesque, hot rod and vintage clothing in Pt Chevalier…

While the weather decided to blow a gale, it didn’t dampen the spirits of Auckland’s vintage loving folk at Rita Sue’s recent Grand Opening Day.

Rita Sue started as a small online store back in 2006, after owner Rachael Pilcher found herself buying vintage clothing via the internet from overseas at the time, as she couldn’t find anything like it in New Zealand. One thing led to another. After a tip off about a fantastic premise in Pt Chevalier, Rachael decided to take the big step and establish a real life presence for Rita Sue in the eclectic city fringe suburb.

Rita Sue is a specialist boutique offering ‘vintage inspiration to the modern femme fatale’, and stocks a fabulous range of retro, rockabilly, pin up, psychobilly, burlesque, hot rod and vintage clothing, shoes and accessories, carefully selected vintage home wares and collectibles, and pinup hair supplies and accessories to help ladies look perfectly put together.

Rachael says; “We are a small boutique, and as such, can offer a more personal experience to shoppers, and we’re always happy to order in anything that we don’t have in stock. Also, we have the best smelling clothing shop in town!”

At the opening day, gorgeous hairdos were whipped up by The Teaser Lounge, and Decadia was on hand to offer beautiful vintage makeovers, using Besame cosmetics.

Future plans for Rita Sue include in-store vintage hair and make-up workshops, so customers can enjoy a full immersion vintage experience from the top of their victory rolled hair, to the soles of their pinup shoes.

Make sure you pay the cute and quirky Pt Chev shop a visit soon, and find out just how lovely Rita Sue looks – and smells!
