No matter what the outside world is throwing at you, step inside the rarefied air of a jewellery store and everything’s rubies and sapphires.
Time seems to slow down and everything looks beautiful and perfectly-preserved behind glass in cabinets.
This is especially true of old jewellery. It seems to say, "I’ve been around; I’ve seen good times, bad times: births, deaths, marriages. Hold me close and things will get better!’ At least, that’s what jewellery says to me! These pieces all have stories. They have been given from lovers, or mothers, as wedding gifts, or after decades of faithful service.
Now, all this old jewellery has a home at 64 Queen St in downtown Auckland.
Walker & Hall have launched ‘Vintage’, a small store on Queen St selling only old jewellery, adjacent to its new jewellery shop. It has a range of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modern and Post-Modern collectable fine jewellery and is open to buy, sell or trade with the public.
