Starfish opens in Newmarket

As part of the festivities around New Zealand Fashion Week, well-known Wellington label Starfish opened their store on Saturday and I was pleased to attend the official launch on Tuesday night in Newmarket.

Nestled amongst other high-end labels on Osborne Street in the heart of Newmarket’s shopping district, Starfish has opened to the delight of its loyal fan base.

“It was only natural for us to open a store in Auckland” said owner/designer Laurie Foon.

After running a pop-up store in Nuffield Street Newmarket earlier this year – which proved to be a great success – the decision was made to establish a store for the Auckland market.

With a history of 17 years, Starfish is a much-loved label in New Zealand. The design philosophy behind the brand is a focus on sustainability with all clothing made in New Zealand.

This season’s collection titled ‘Free Radicals’ takes inspiration from Len Lye, a New Zealand artist fascinated with motion and moving art. You will find all the pieces in the collection are named after his work and follow the motion expressed in his
art such as swirls and prints.

Another unique aspect of the store is the eco-friendly products available such as eco-coffee mugs, hand bags and shoes by Moki, Terra Plana and Veja; all sustainable and tie in with the Starfish philosophy.

The girls are very lovely and approachable which is always nice to see in a designer store so make time to pop in and check it out.
