Chairman Mao’s Little Red Book dictated rules for living by and – with only the colour in common- so does this red book from Diana Vreeland; Allure.

It is a new edition of the 1980s collection of images that Diana Vreeland’s editor – Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis – asked her to compile on what the concept of allure meant to her.

With the iconic Vogue Editor-in-Chief and Fashion Editor of Harper’s Bazaar’s now famous fabulousness postively spilling forth from each page, the tome is filled with her quotes – or statements, really – that one must take tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Like Oscar Wilde, you can’t take her wisdom too seriously, she is always poking fun at the establishment of the day and people who take themselves too seriously. "We’ve come a long way, my love…really, we should forget all this nonsense and just stay home and read Proust."

The foreword by Marc Jacobs introduces the book and explains Vreeland’s love of the unexpected and unconventional as alluring.

The hardcover book is filled with black and white photographs and newspaper clippings of the time that Diana Vreeland says she chose to amuse and perhaps please the reader.

Not many women go down in history known as "style mavens" or an "arbiter of taste" so for any lover of fashion, style and those who want a glimpse into the past fifty years of the fashion world, Allure is a must-have.

I am sure, like me, you will find it perfectly alluring.

Allure RRP $81.99
