Erin Taylor is a designer going places. Recently she opened her own ‘Erin Taylor’ boutique mid way up Plimmer Steps in the Wellington CBD. The store is fresh and inviting, full of charm and glamour.
Erin has been sewing since she was three when her mother taught her. She has worked in the corporate environment but being creative meant that she has followed her dressmaking passions on the side to complement her lifestyle.
Erin’s inspiration comes partly from the glamour starlets from yesteryear including Ginger Rogers, Twiggy, Bette Midler, Jane Birkin as well as Debbie Harry.

Her current collection uses lots of florals, polka dots, and lace. “Initially when the store opened in early November is was Melbourne Cup so we had alot of dresses aimed towards race day. Now there is more summer wear” Erin says. “Everything is lined and I use cotton, lace, chiffon with detailing such as ribbon sash belts”. As Erin says, the dresses are all “very cute, very cocktail”.
Our favourite is the “Chapel Street Stroll” a white chiffon blouse with 70s detailing on the sleeves.
Erin also designs bags, and jewellery using antique buttons and lace gloves.
The antique button necklaces are sold out weekly and stock has to be replenished as soon as it hits the floor. Sourced from antique stores and trade me the jewellery compliments the dresses in store.
Erin Taylor collection also features a basics range including ½ and full slips all at reasonable price points. Just what a lady needs to layer under her special occasion ensemble.
Erin aims to continue to design ball gowns, 21st dresses, cocktail, wedding and race outfits. She also undertakes a dress making service in store with a quick turnaround. This designer is more than talented, with a degree in Neuro Science, seamstress and business skills.
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented designer and wish her all the best.
Erin will have a new collection available in her boutique from mid December.
