Lots of Auckland-based Comms students ask me how to break into the local PR/media world so here are a few starters…
There are a number of fashion PR agencies in Auckland. I recommend you follow them all on Twitter and post intelligent observations daily and retweet their tweets that you like. Get seen!
Develop relationships.
Write fresh content on your blog. Attend all the free events and post your work, and Tweet each article you load.
Interview people in the industry and send them the link – they will tweet it to their contacts.
Use your blog as a) a portfolio for prospective employers and b) excellent practice for your writing.
Have faultless grammar and spelling. They will notice.
Definitely work for free as an intern.
Why not send a press release promoting yourself really creatively to the agencies?
