We look at the beautiful new VOGUE ON titles, starring the life works of fashion icons Balenciaga, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, and Ralph Lauren.

The account of the fashion legacy of Cristobal Balenciaga is written Susan Irvine, Hubert de Givenchy by Drusilla Beyfus, Vivienne Westwood by Linda Watson, and Ralph Lauren by Kathleen Baird-Murray.

The books are a factual yet highly readable biography of the career of each designer chronologically from childhood through their career and illustrated throughout with photographs, magazine editorial shots, film stills, and hand-drawn illustrations. Many of the designers were closely linked to film, such as Ralph Lauren designing for Diane Keaton and Woody Allen in Annie Hall, Lauren for The Great Gatsby with Robert Redford, and Givenchy for Audrey Hepburn’s classic films.

I give ‘VOGUE ON’ 10 out of 10. They are published by Quadrille Books and available here in New Zealand at selected bookstores and online at www.bookreps.co.nz for $34.99 each. There are earlier titles too which we reviewed on thread here.
