You know me, I love my vintage! It’s a combination of the thrill of the find, and knowing other people won’t look exactly like you, and the interesting details and fabrics of clothes from yesteryear. So it was great excitement that I headed into Ponsonby’s Mariachi Vintage boutique at 135 Ponsonby Road to meet beautiful owner Marlla and hear about her store.
Mariachi is a consignment fashion boutique, meaning you can take your clothes in to sell on your behalf, with items curated with the highest quality and style in mind. There’s a range of clothing for men and women, handbags, shoes, jewellery and accessories to choose from.
It is clear from the outset that Marlla loves clothes, -and they sure her, too. The gorgeous retailer says the clothes in the store are her personal taste, she wants so many of them herself, and she has has a great eye so choosing from her selection you can’t go wrong.
“Our aim is creating a fun and creative platform to recycle your wardrobe while you make or save money always thinking about the environment and reducing the waste on it” says Marlla.
What’s different about Mariachi Vintage is that it’s not all strictly vintage but has contemporary pre-loved labels as well, so there’s a mix of 1950s and recent season well-known brands. I like this a lot, as it is how I personally dress; I like to mix new and old together in an outfit and this store helps you do that.
