Samantha Hayes and Antonia Prebble presided over events at Frocktails at Mollies on Saturday 1st May.
The boutique hotel in Auckland’s Freeman’s Bay was transformed into theme rooms, with live opera, a fashion show, and matching canapes and cocktails to go with the themes in every room.
Two hundred guests attended the charity evening fundraising for Auckland city Mission with what we thought was extremely good value for $100 tickets; food and cocktails included all night, live performances by opera singers, guitarist Luke Hurley, a pianist in the Bordello Chic room, Shannon Ryan and Dan Auks in the Gentlemen Club designed by Michael Pattison and Adrian Hailwood, and poet Gus Siminovich in the Folk Room.
Not to mention the chance to get frocked up and look at beautiful clothes both on the models and on the other guests!

Jack Bourke of Mollies sung opera with Phantom of the Opera star, Sarah Jane.
Frances Wilson tickled the Steinway’s ivories to accompany the duet beautifully, watched by an admiring Samantha Hayes.
Mollies owner Frances Wilson gave an eloquent and moving speech on the appropriateness of this year’s charity, Auckland City Mission, as she felt for those who had nowhere to go to and no purpose in their lives all day. Last year the Mollies Frocktails event raised $10,000 for World Vision and this year they hope to beat that figure with 50% of ticket sales and the silent auction.
Guests watching the entertainment, in the Drawing Room decorated by Stitch Ministry in a 1960s bohemian coffee house scene. Later on, singer-songwriter Luke Hurley played on the stage here.
Next up, the fashion show directed by Dan Ahwa, with models walking down the main staircase and weaving amongst guests. "It’s hard to tell who the models are and who the guests are, with everyone dressed so well!" commented Samantha Hayes.
