We take you backstage with Bobbi Brown at TIBI at New York Fashion Week Fall ’14 with Thread reporter, Iris Chan…
The Pier 59 space is doesn’t look like a venue for high fashion from the outside.
It is a sight to see; the stream of fashion editors, buyers and fans streaming into the corrugated iron, patchwork rainbow painted edifice and walk past the putting range into the Studio spaces. But not every venue is Lincoln Center or the New York Library.
A series of ushers ensure people go to the right shows. Tibi backstage was very relaxed in comparison to others. As for the Bobbi Brown team, they are all smiles. This attitude is probably fostered by their Director of Global Artistry, Kim Soane. She is happy to mingle and talk to editors and never seems flustered by the activity around her.

The Tibi collection for Fall 2014 is the synthesis of pastoral and urban themes. As stated in the press release, “The clothes are inspired by a natural beauty form the countryside who has the energy and the ‘je ne sais quoi’ of an urbanite.” Soane kept the same theme with the makeup.

She explained that the skin was kept very natural and fresh with the most simple of nude eyes – only a light dusting of shadow – and three coats of mascara.

The brows and lips took the bolder representation of the ‘urbanite’ in the makeup brief. The brow was full and strong, not in the Katie Price way, but reminiscent of a more sculpted 1980’s look. And the lip was actually given a bit of ‘dirtying up’. Bobbi Brown Port lipstick was applied, blotted and then the lips were dusted with powder. Then another coat of lipstick created a very textured look.

When asked how to apply this look off the runway, Soane suggested just minor adjustments: apply a bit more mascara and lose the powder on the lips, just blot it.
Looking at the stunning faces of the Tibi show, this look can work for any skin type and face shape.
