If you read Thread, you KNOW how much I love vintage clothing. So I was over the moon to hear about the ‘Black Tie from the Darnell Collection’ event held during iD Dunedin Fashion Week this March.
Open to the public and on show at Golden Centre Mall at 251 George Street, Dunedin, the event will take place on Wednesday 13 March 2013 from 7pm, in association with Quartz Reef sparkling wine.
The Darnell Collection comprises many beautiful and irreplaceable vintage evening gowns, from the collection of author and curator Charlotte Smith. There are vintage couture pieces from Australia, England, France and America from a range of decades from the 1930s to the 1980s, all accessorised with jewellery, handbags, hats, gloves and – in honour of iD’s international guest for 2013 – a 1960s- inspired Stephen Jones hat.
Charlotte says, "This is serious formal wear that has never been seen or exhibited before and are priceless pieces that I have either recently acquired or been given. On show will be the most amazing ball gowns, long formal cocktail dresses, jump suits and outfits worn by models like Veruschka in the 1960s."
As well as the vintage pieces, ‘Black Tie from the Darnell Collection’ will also showcase current collections from STORM, Hype and I Love Paris and menswear from RJB Design.
Tickets are $40 (including Quartz Reef on entry) available from Monday 28 January via www.ticketdirect.co.nz
Get along for a an unmissable event for lovers of vintage – and modern – fashion.
