Although ostensibly a summer fashion show for three local labels in Showroom 22’s stable, the Blue Sky catwalk show on 24th April had everyone talking about how great it would be if a summer fashion week happened here in New Zealand.

Showroom 22 owner Murray Bevan has great vision. He has developed his fashion PR agency of top clients over the past ten years, and runway show Blue Sky held at Australis House in Britomart doubled as a celebration of a decade in the business.

The guest list at the show was like a roll call of who’s who in the local fashion industry with media, designers, models and PRs all present. I joked that if a bomb went off in the room, the New Zealand fashion industry would pretty much be decimated. Just to name a few of the approx 250 present: Pieter and Myken Stewart, Zambesi, Kathryn Wilson, TVNZ, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Stuff, Fairfax, ACP, FQ, Samantha Hayes, Boh Runga, Stephen Marr salon, Glassons, Jimmy d, Chris Lorimer, Ruby, Liam, Blomfield PR’s Paul and Jill, Lily&Louis PR’s Jacqui Ansin, as well as many of the top fashion bloggers and websites.

Designers Karen Walker and Augustina Ellis were represented by their husbands, Mikhail Gherman and Marc Ellis, respectively.

The three labels that showed SS12/13 collections were Alexandra Owen, Salasai, and Juliette Hogan (reviewed here) – the latter well represented on the backs of at least eight guests.

The name Blue Sky conjured up images of summer, and beautiful bouquets brought spring to the autumn night, with bright floral arrangements on pillars down the catwalk.

Here are our top picks of photos from the show. Individual collections to follow.

Cameras at the ready

A well-produced, well-edited and well-attended show. Here’s to seeing some of those labels sitting watching this year, on the catwalk, next year.
