Thread attended the breathtaking opening night of fashion show and charity event ‘Project Born’ on 25th October 2012 held at the Portrait Gallery on Wellington’s waterfront.
Project Born aims to raise awareness of The Neonatal Trust which provides support to families of premature or sick full term babies as they make their journey through Neonatal Intensive Care, the transition home, and onwards.
The opening performance charmed the packed-out audience with modeling, aerobatics, dance, art and song. Mixed with fantastic lighting, costumes and choreography the show was completely spot on. Some acts were mesmerising.
Highlights for me included fresh-faced models in silk lingerie dancing around a witch doctor, silk and pole aerobatics, and amazing body art. The stage was set up so guests were seated within five metres of the live act so interaction was inevitable. Credit has to be given to the behind-the-scenes body painters, costume designers, lighting and stage direction organised by Weta Workshop. Everything went faultlessly to plan.
Models walked in lingerie by Emma Highfield, For Every Minute and Milkman. Some models were on stage for the first time – and probably first timers in classy lingerie – and that added to the tasteful yet creative performance.
Sponsors Mojo Coffee, Jeff White BMW and Weta Workshop can be assured that the sponsorship they provide toward a real and emotional cause is appreciated. Although Project Born runs every two years, it could easily be an annual event. Project Born is in its own league and it was apparent everyone involved, from guests to performers, was touched by the messages portrayed. If you get the chance to attend – go.
Caberet, burlesque and Moulin Rouge beware – there’s a new genre…Project Born.
