WORLD, Kate Sylvester and Zambesi launched their move from High Street to Britomart Precinct with a bang with a catwalk show that took full advantage of the staircase in the shiny new Atrium on Takutai tonight.
The show, with seated VIP guests and free-to-the-public standing, was held on Saturday 3rd March on a day of free fashion events around the city as part of promotions by the inner city marketing board, BIG Little City.
Earlier in the day there were best-dressed awards, live entertainment, gifts with purchase, competitions for shoppers, and these fabulous live fashion shows, designed to bring top fashion to the public in the style of a fashion week show but democratised to be accessible to the consumers.

The audience inside the Atrium, at least two hundred seated and more than that again, standing.
Menswear opened theWORLD section of the group show to a pumping Backstreet Boys soundtrack, with male models aptly carrying umbrellas on the day that the Met Service forecast a ‘weatherbomb’ in Auckland.

Zambesi’s Neville Findlay, Peter Shand, WORLD’s Denise L’Estrange Corbet and daughter Pebbles Hooper watch the fashion shows from the front row.
If you hadn’t gone to fashion week – or paid to go to Fashion Festival- then these free public shows are a fabulous way to see the top of local design talent on the catwalk with beautiful hair (by Ryder) and make-up styling. I hope that the well-organised and well-attended fashion shows continue, to launch every new season.
