High waisted pants, silk and denim for tops and bottoms, military design and khaki colours, soft feminine fabrics, geometric patterns, fur embellishment, wedge shoes and sky high heels were some of the key themes of the NZFF collections…

Lights, camera, action – NZ Fashion Festival Collections #3
24th March 2011

Shed 6, Wellesley Street on Thursday evening set the scene for the third catwalk show as part of the New Zealand Fashion Festival in Auckland.

In association with Auckland Tourism Events & Economic Development and Cleo, the show included a strong line up of designers including Sabatini, Celine Rita, Michelle Yvette, Doosh, Sable and Minx, Claire Barker, Kimberley’s, Who’s Henri, Brady and Adrian Hailwood.

Sitting in the second row I had a great viewing spot to note down the key themes of the current in-season collections.

Noticeable trends included:

High waisted pants, silk and denim for tops and bottoms, military design and khaki colours, soft feminine fabrics, geometric patterns, fur embellishment, wedge shoes and sky high heels.

My particular favourite of the night was Claire Barker’s collection which consisted of pretty pastel tones in feminine cuts.

Adrian Hailwood was also impressive mixing military inspiration with very edgy designs.

In general there was something there for everyone’s taste.

The Cleo Bachelor Of The Year finalists came out mid-show; that was a nice surprise and good way to mix up the evening.

Overall the collections of each designer were unique and so good to see an array of ideas coming through in New Zealand fashion.

The New Zealand Fashion Festival is aimed at increasing the profile of the fashion industry and the designers to the public. As such, all the pieces are shown available in store the very next day.

And that is something we can applaud.
