Wellington Fashion Week was in full swing on Friday 20th April, with the bridal show following the second group runway collections.
The Couture Bridal Fashion Show featured some of New Zealand’s finest bridal fashion designers, including Sophie Voon, Corina Snow, Liz Mitchell, Robyn Cliffe, John Zimmerman Couture, Alison Blaine, Caroline Restall, and Shika Braddock.
We took a peek backstage before the Couture Bridal Fashion Show and were surprised to find everyone very composed.
In my mind backstage is full of chaos, but the models looked calm and collected, safe in the hands of the talented team from Napolean Perdis.
On the runway we saw everything from princess collars and full skirts to sleek and simple shifts, and intricate beadwork to crisp short dresses. The designers showcased varying looks to suit any bride, but of course, there was tulle, sparkles and glamour to boot. (Left: gown by Sophie Voon)
Bridal couture is quite subjective and some of my favourites of the night were those with Spanish lace overlays and flattering sweetheart necklines, with an emphasis on elegant tailoring and simplicity. Each designer had a silhouette that any woman would fall in love with.
I spoke to a few potential brides from the audience after the show, and each were taken with a different look and feel. One woman’s princess dream is another’s meringue nightmare, but I can honestly say each designer blew me away with the intense attention to detail that every bride desires.
Here’s a closer look at some of the amazing bridal couture on offer.
