Day 1 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2014 on location with Thread’s Photographer Sam Lee and Writer Dana Lee. Here’s day one…
We have touchdown! We arrived in Sydney and checked out the venue for fashion week, the historic brick building known as Carriageworks.

Our first show of fashion week was a timeless classic and elegant Australian designer who has almost half a century of fashion industry experience under her belt – Carla Zampatti.

The show started not long after 6pm, with the first few outfits in a black crepe – very fitted around the waist, but flared at the hem.
Many of the garments had slits down the back or sides that created movement in the fabric.
The use of drape and tailoring was well put together that gave a modern Grecian look. The floral embelishments were beautifully created and each outfit showed off the female body elegantly.
Some of my favourites was the full lace dress that had a centre back slit which was very classic, a full white suit with pants that stopped at the knee with beautiful shoulder detailing that created a unique silhouette. There was also a backless blue lace dress that really stood out on the catwalk.
Some main features included plunging neck lines and asymetrical hemlines, in key fabrics of crepe, organza, lace and georgette. The last four outfits wrapped up the show vibrantly with lime, blue, porcelain and red georgette gowns worn together with matching feather jackets.
Overall the collection potrayed classic beauty that was luxurious and elegant complementing the form of the female body.

The drama of a white shirt that trails off to become a cape for a modern-day superwoman.
A detail of the perspex headpiece worn over slicked-back hair for a futuristic look.
After the white outfits; a series of black evening gowns, and then a pop of colour in primary-brights of blue, yellow, white and red.
